Summary Indiscriminate searches of students’ cell phones threaten students’ privacy rights in ways that have never before been possible. This report by ACLU of California, addresses the intersection of technology and student rights-the searches and seizures of students' cell phones. The report provides background information on student cell phone use and examines the privacy concerns that arise from searches of student cell phones. Includes a survey of current school district policies on the possession/use of cell phones by students as well as the current legal limits on searches; and model polices.
